4 Important SEO Basics

4 Rules You Need To Survive (Yes, Literally..)
You’ve heard about content being King. This, as we all know, is an important factor with user retention and passive link building etc.
So I’m not going to continue on the importance you should place on keyword rich, professional content (at least not in this article).
With that Huge Golden rule in mind, I’d like to present to you the top 4 rules you MUST follow if you wish to gain consistent amounts of unique, targeted traffic to your website/aff link etc.
Note: For the sake of this article, we are going to presume you are at the stage of deciding on a Domain Name.

Important SEO Basics
Domain Name Keyword Research.
Before you plan anything, you must first find out what niche you want your website to target, along with a selection of high traffic keywords and keyphrases.
2 Popular Free tools you can use for Keyword research are the Google Adwords Keyword Tool and WordTracker. For many other tools (both Free and Paid) please check out our Keyword Research Tools page.
Choosing a keyword or phrase (2 -3 words at most) that get atleast 10,000 searches a month, and less then 500,000 (Ideal) results in Google is the aim here. To check how many results a keyword gets in Google, just simply type in the phrase and on the results page just look to the top right. You’ll see something like ” Results 1 – 10 of about 226,000 for “(KeyWord)”". Basically, the higher the search quantity and the lower the search results, the better.
Quality Link Building
Getting High Quality, 1-way back links back to your site from high authority, targetted websites can be difficult. But as difficult as it may be, it is an extremely important part of SEO.
“Why is it so important?” you might be asking (or not), well apart from the obvious TARGETTED TRAFFIC that will result from such links, getting links from Google’s ‘trusted’ sites will hold many other benefits. Such as more frequent visits from the Google Bot, higher rankings on the SERPs, higher PR and, as I said, Targetted Traffic.
Keyword Density
This is a matter of debate, but personally I believe that a keyword density of about 2 – 10 %. Some sites with little content (eCommerce etc), 20% Keyword Density can be acceptable.
Keyword density is, as it sounds, the density of your keyword used on an individual page. Overuse your keyword and Google can mark your site as spam, rejecting you from Google’s database (not a good thing).
To check your pages keyword density, just go to Webconfs’ Density Checker
Text Formatting
Header tags (<H1>, <H2> etc), Italicizing, Bolding, ALT tags, TITLE, Meta Description and more (click here for a list of formatting you should consider utilizing for optimum SEO).
Be sure to use Bold, Italics and Underline sparingly. Overuse can, just like overuse of keywords, make you look spammy in the eyes of Google. H1 tags should be used for titles, H2 for subtitles and so on.
Keep in mind these are just the basics that EVERYONE should utilize.
